| Gabriel Bien-Aime is a Haitian artist, born in Croix de Bouquets in 1951. Bien-Aime works as a metal artist, known in Haiti as "forgerons" (voodoo blacksmith art). His sculptures are carved from recycled oildrums, and reflect a mix of symbolism from Haitian culture, spirits (loas) and both the voodoo and Catholic religions. Bien-Aime was one of the first artists working in what is now a traditional artform in Haiti, producing new generations of metal sculpture artists. |
