Jill Schultz McGannon was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her BFA and MFA in Drawing and Painting at the University of Georgia, and in Chicago, Illinois, where she attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She began painting landscapes in 1994 when she spent the summer in Cortona, Italy as Artist in Residence. She found a new interest in painting plein-air from the hilltops surrounding Cortona. Jillís most recent body of work consists of Tuscan landscape paintings that can be seen at The Modern Primitive Gallery in Atlanta, and Gwenda Jay/Addington in Chicago. With these paintings, she also hopes to impress upon the viewer the beauty and value of the diminishing landscape. As a classical painter, Jill also works from the figure weekly and paints portraits as well as metaphorical figurative works.
